How to open a GPX file on Android

Open a GPX file in your browser (fastest)

1. Download or locate the GPX file. Save the .gpx from an email, chat, or download. It usually lands in your Downloads folder.
2. Open Chrome and go to gpxviewer.app. Type gpxviewer.app into the address bar. The viewer loads with an upload area.
3. Tap the upload area. Tap “Choose a file”. Android opens its file picker.
4. Pick your .gpx file. Browse to Downloads (or wherever the file is) and select it.
5. View the route. The track appears on the map with distance, elevation, speed heat-zones, and replay. The file is read in the browser and never uploaded.

Open a GPX file in OsmAnd, Locus or Komoot

To open the track in a mapping app, use the Files app (or your file manager). Tap the .gpx file, then choose “Open with”, and pick an installed app such as OsmAnd, Locus Map, or Komoot. The app imports the route so you can navigate or follow it offline.

OsmAnd and Locus are strong offline-map choices; Komoot is best if you also plan routes. Any of them will accept a shared GPX.

If “Open with” shows no app

If Android offers no app to open the .gpx, it means nothing installed has registered for the format. Open it in the browser viewer instead — gpxviewer.app works without installing anything — or install a mapping app first, then retry “Open with”.
