Open a GPX file in Wahoo ELEMNT

A Wahoo ELEMNT gets routes through its companion app — the Wahoo app for ACE, BOLT 3 and ROAM 3, or the ELEMNT app for earlier models. Import the GPX there, or let routes sync from a linked service like Komoot, Ride with GPS or Strava.

Steps

  1. Get the .gpx onto your phone. Save the file to your phone, for example in the Files app.
  2. Open it with the companion app. Tap the file and choose Wahoo (ACE, BOLT 3, ROAM 3) or ELEMNT (older units), then confirm the import. In the Wahoo app you can also go to Explore → My Collection → My Routes → “+” → “Import a file”.
  3. Send it to the bike computer. In the Wahoo app, open the route and tap “Send to ELEMNT”. With the ELEMNT app, sync the unit to transfer it.
  4. Start the route. On ACE, BOLT 3 and ROAM 3: tap Routes on the Ready to Ride panel → Select Route. On older units: Maps → Routes.

Quirks & limits

  • Linking Komoot, Ride with GPS, Strava or Trailforks in the app syncs their routes automatically — often the smoothest path.
  • USB also works: copy the .gpx or .tcx into the device’s routes folder (a Mac needs an MTP file-transfer app). On ACE, BOLT 3 and ROAM 3, switch on USB access first in the Wahoo app → Devices → your device → Settings; routes copied this way stay on the device only.
  • The phone needs a data connection to import and send routes.

Frequently asked questions

Can I load a GPX onto a Wahoo ELEMNT?

Yes. Open the GPX with the Wahoo app (or the ELEMNT app on older units) and send it to the device, or sync it from a linked service like Komoot or Ride with GPS.

Does the ELEMNT read a GPX directly over USB?

Yes. Copy the file into the device’s routes folder over USB. Newer units (ACE, BOLT 3, ROAM 3) need USB access switched on in the Wahoo app first, and routes loaded this way aren’t managed by the app.
