Activity & route apps

Strava → Strava accepts GPX directly. komoot → komoot imports a GPX as either a saved route (a plan you can view, edit and navigate) or a completed activity. AllTrails → Any AllTrails member can upload a GPX as a custom route on the website or in the mobile app. Ride with GPS → Ride with GPS imports a GPX as a Route (a planned line you can navigate and send to a bike computer) or as an Activity (a recorded ride). Gaia GPS → Gaia GPS imports GPX directly — on the website and in the iOS and Android apps — and a free account is enough. OsmAnd → OsmAnd opens GPX directly on both Android and iOS, and can navigate it offline — a strong choice when you have no signal.

Maps

Google Maps → Google Maps itself can’t open a GPX. Google Earth → Google Earth Pro (the free desktop app) opens GPX directly. Apple Maps → Apple Maps cannot import GPX — there is no “open in Apple Maps” for a .gpx.

GPS watches & bike computers

Garmin → Garmin Connect can import a GPX two ways: as an Activity (it lands in your history) or as a Course (a route you can send to a device and navigate). Wahoo ELEMNT → A Wahoo ELEMNT gets routes through its companion app — the Wahoo app for ACE, BOLT 3 and ROAM 3, or the ELEMNT app for earlier models. Suunto → You add a GPX route to a Suunto watch through the Suunto app: import the route there, then sync it to the watch to navigate. COROS → A COROS watch gets routes through the COROS app: open the GPX with the app to save it, sync it to the watch, and start the route from the watch’s Navigation. Polar → You import a GPX route into Polar Flow on the web, then sync it to a compatible Polar watch to navigate.

Frequently asked questions

Which apps can open a GPX file?

Most fitness and mapping platforms accept GPX — Strava, Garmin Connect, komoot, Ride with GPS, Gaia GPS and OsmAnd all import it directly. Google Maps and Apple Maps are the exceptions: Google Maps needs Google My Maps as a go-between, and Apple Maps can't import GPX at all.

How do I move a GPX route onto my GPS watch or bike computer?

Import the GPX into the brand's app or web platform (Garmin Connect, the Suunto/COROS app, Polar Flow, or the Wahoo/ELEMNT app), then sync the device. Import it as a Course/Route — not an activity — so it's navigable.
