Open a GPX file in komoot
komoot imports a GPX as either a saved route (a plan you can view, edit and navigate) or a completed activity. Free accounts can import; navigating needs an unlocked region, and one region is free.

Steps
- Sign in to komoot. Log in at komoot.com (import works on the website and in the app).
- Open the import option. On the website go to your Profile → Saved routes → “Import a GPS file”. In the app: Profile → Saved routes → Import → “Import a file (GPX, FIT or TCX)”.
- Import it as a route. Select your .gpx and choose “Import to Plan a Route”. (To log a past trip instead, use Profile → Completed activities → “Import a GPS file” → “Import as Activity”.)
- Keep or match the line, then save. Choose “Stick to original route” to keep your exact track, or “Match route to known ways” to snap it to komoot’s map, then save.
Quirks & limits
- “Match route to known ways” lets komoot navigate the route but can nudge the line onto nearby paths; “Stick to original route” keeps it exactly as recorded.
- One region is free. Navigating elsewhere needs another region, a bundle or komoot Premium, and importing a long route as a multi-day plan is a Premium feature.
- komoot imports GPX, FIT and TCX — not KML — one file at a time.
