Open a GPX file in AllTrails

Importing a GPX into AllTrails as a custom map is an AllTrails+ (paid) feature. The free tier can’t import GPX at all — so if you only want to see the track, a free GPX viewer is faster.

Free tierImporting a GPX requires the paid AllTrails+ plan; the free tier can’t import.

Steps

  1. Have an AllTrails+ subscription. Custom map / GPX import is part of the paid AllTrails+ plan. Sign in with a subscribed account at alltrails.com.
  2. Open the upload option. Go to your profile and choose to upload a map / route.
  3. Select your GPX file. Upload your .gpx; it becomes a custom map on your account.

Quirks & limits

  • The free tier cannot import GPX — this is a paid (AllTrails+) capability.
  • To simply view a GPX without paying, open it in a browser-based viewer instead.

See the route before you upload it

Not sure the file is the right one? Drop it into the viewer first — you'll see the full track on a map with distance, elevation and speed. Nothing is uploaded.
