Open a GPX file in AllTrails

Any AllTrails member can upload a GPX as a custom route on the website or in the mobile app. Drawing and editing routes in the app requires the paid Peak plan.

Steps

  1. Sign in on the website. Log in at alltrails.com on a computer.
  2. Open the route builder. Go to Explore and choose “Build custom route”.
  3. Upload your GPX. Choose “Upload a route”, browse to or drag in your .gpx, then click “Upload”.
  4. Find the saved route. After the “Route uploaded” confirmation, find it in Saved → Custom routes. In the mobile app, use Saved → Lists → Custom routes → ⋯ → “Upload route”.

Quirks & limits

  • Any member can upload a route on the website or in the iOS/Android app; drawing and editing routes inside the app is a Peak feature.
  • A recorded track can go to your activities instead: profile picture → Show profile → Activities → Map → “Upload file” (website only; the button appears once you have at least one recorded activity).
  • Files can be up to 20 MB; besides GPX, AllTrails accepts KML, KMZ, FIT, TCX and other formats.

What does AllTrails do with an imported GPX?
